Austin Counselling offers a wide range of counselling services to adults and teens (13+), with specialization in anxiety disorders and OCD. At Austin Counselling we evidence-based treatment for trauma through a variety of treatment models, including EMDR and IFS.

About the Role:
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Psychologist/ Social Worker to join our team on a contract basis, specializing in the treatment of anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCD), as well as trauma.

The ideal candidate will also have experience and training in an alternative area of counselling - such as couples counselling, addiction counselling, neurodiverse clients, etc. This role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse client base, applying evidence-based therapeutic techniques to help individuals and couples improve their mental health and well-being.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual therapy to clients (13+), using evidence-based treatments such as Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Reprocessing, Prolonged Exposure (PE), EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), along with other therapeutic modalities.

  • Offer counselling/therapeutic services to one or more of the follow populations, including but not limited to couples, substance abuse/addictions, neurodiverse clients, etc.

  • Assess and develop treatment plans in collaboration with clients, considering their unique needs and therapeutic goals.

  • Maintain detailed and accurate client records, including assessment reports, treatment plans, and progress notes.

  • Participate in good practice supervision to maintain ethical and competent practice, at the discretion of the Associate.

  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals as necessary, ensuring an integrated approach to treatment and care.

  • Stay up to date with the latest research and best practices in treatment and care.

  • Build connections through team building and team community involvement to enhance a collaborative, nurturing, connected working environment.


Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in psychology or social work (M.A./M.S. in Psychology, MSW).

  • Licensed or registered as a Provisional/Registered Psychologist/ Social Worker in Alberta and Nova Scotia*

    • Register with Nova Scotia for telehealth practice, if already registered in Alberta.

  • Carry own professional liability insurance that support multi-provisional practice, as well as cyber insurance.

  • Specialization and experience in treating OCD/anxiety disorders and Trauma.

  • Experience and training in one or more of the follow practice areas: couples, addictions, neurodiverse, trauma.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to foster a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental therapeutic environment.

  • Ability to work independently, manage caseloads effectively, and adjust treatment plans as needed.

  • Flexibility to manage the diversity and fluidity of private practice.

  • Strong computer literacy and technology skills, with experience with platforms such as Owl Practice, Excel, Adobe, etc.

  • Empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity for all peoples.
     

Preferred Experience:
Three to five years of experience in the following:

  • Experience/Training: Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Reprocessing, Prolonged Exposure (PE), EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS),

  • Experience/Training in Trauma models

    • EMDR, ART, IFS, EFT, etc.

  • Training and experience in Couples Counselling, with knowledge of effective interventions for relationship dynamics and conflict resolution.

    • Gottman Method, Developmental Model for Couples, etc

  • Experience in Addiction Counselling, including working with clients struggling with substance use and behavioral addictions.

    • Motivational Interviewing (MI)

  • Experience working with neurodiverse teens and adults, with an understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and other neurodevelopmental conditions.

    • Familiarity with evidence-based tools and practices for neurodiverse individuals, such as social skills training or executive functioning support.
